About
The Columbia Climate Center (CCC), created by the Earth Institute at Columbia University, strives to improve humankind’s capacity to understand, predict and respond to climate variability and change by drawing on and integrating the many climate-related activities at the University.
By considering climate as one among the multiple stressors facing the planet, the Center aims to redefine climate research. The fragmented disciplinary approaches of the past cannot provide the information needed for decision makers to shape a sustainable future.
To reach this goal, CCC:
- Uses an integrated approach to translate the best climate science into practical solutions by linking expertise from climate science, earth engineering, public health, political science, economics and decision science.
- Delineates mitigation and adaptation options so societies can respond proactively to the anticipated impacts of climate change and variability.
- Develops a framework at Columbia University to provide policy analysis and advice to stakeholders and policymakers.
- Coordinates climate science research at Columbia University to share information and promote synergy between the climate groups.
