Target Audience: Grades 3-6

This session will explore how coral skeletons can be used to generate seasonal resolution (winter, spring, summer, fall) reconstructions of water temperature, rainfall and salinity (salt content) extending back hundreds of years. The longest coral sample scientists at Lamont has collected extends back to 1521 C.E! Students a close-up view of actual coral core samples that have been collected and will learn how they are sampled and analyzed in the lab to make these unique climate records.
