Please join the Undergraduate Program in Sustainable Development for our first Alumni Career Conversations panel! The purpose of this event is to expose students to various sectors and projects in the sustainability field and to create an intimate space for students to meet and discuss with alumni with similar academic backgrounds and interests. Our panelists include:
Sofia Assab (GS '22): With nearly a decade of experience in the non-profit sector, Sofia co-founded Eden Labs while at Columbia, a tech startup working to make the cloud open-source and more efficient. Sofia also works as an ESG consultant, advising a wide range of large and mid-level companies on ways to develop their ESG strategy. Alongside her consultant work, Sofia maintains positions in non-profit organizations, recognizing the value of the two paradigms of business.
Alyssa Menz (CC '15): Alyssa is a current second-year PhD student at the Yale School of the Environment. Interested in the nexus of corporate sustainability and international development, she is currently conducting research on corporate net-zero pledges, the gap between decarbonization ambition and action, and mission-driven (or "net positive") companies. Prior to joining Yale, Alyssa spent 5 years at DAI Global, an international development firm, where she specialized in corporate social investment, sustainability entrepreneurship and innovation, local content, and the energy sector. She has a master's in Nature, Society, and Environmental Governance from the University of Oxford.
Jesse Thorson (CC '18): Jesse is a strategist at Third Partners, a boutique management consultancy and impact advisory working for positive change. Jesse helps organizations across various sectors to set and achieve sustainability and ESG goals while driving performance and positive impact. He previously worked at the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, where he managed research and convening initiatives at the intersection of sustainability, ethics, and religion. He has worked in academia, energy, and the nonprofit sector.
Hannah Friedman (CC '19): Hannah is an action-biased systems-thinker dedicated to deploying capital for climate solutions. Hannah is the founding Principal of Planeteer Capital, a venture capital fund investing in Pre-Seed and Seed-stage climate tech startups. Previously, Hannah spent nearly 4 years on the venture capital team of Closed Loop Partners, investing in the circular economy and authoring Closed Loop's Navigating Plastic Alternatives report. Hannah received a Master's of Sustainability Management from Columbia University.
